About Care Preference

Get to know us

Care Preference are a bespoke care provider that initially started by providing specialist care to clients with neuromuscular conditions. After years of development and expansion we now confidently represent and provide care to people with various conditions all over the UK.

We start by meeting with our service users to ascertain their needs and then work to create  a bespoke care package that ensures that our service providers can live full lives and accomplish their goals. We match our PA’s to our service users based on not only needs but also compatibility meaning that all of our service users can go about their daily lives being supported by someone who not only understands them but someone that they enjoy being with on a daily basis.

In a previous career life, I was a draughtsman using AutoCAD and X-Steel to draw steel frames for buildings, install them for fabrication and draw up the construction plan.

In a previous career life, I was a draughtsman using AutoCAD and X-Steel to draw steel frames for buildings, install them for fabrication and draw up the construction plan (after a short stint using the old school drawing boards which will give my advanced years away). I enjoyed the office life but sought more from my productivity. I decided to do a business and HR-related degree and continued to work full-time. Though after 18 months of this I worried that I would simply gain the qualification and continue in my role, so I decided to jump 2 footed into something completely different.

There were only 2 jobs advertised in the University, one was working in a book shop, the other 1 to 1 with a young male adult with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Upon meeting the gent I was amazed at what he had achieved, despite requiring an electric wheelchair for mobility and having no movement beyond that of his thumb. He helped a lot of others in his position with guidance and support, offered great insight into his condition and those with similar conditions, commencing a project to enable others to focus on studies, careers and life ambitions, taking away the focus on care.

In 2008 I moved to the North West, not for my love of Manchester United, though that made the transition easier. Care Preference was born then to support people with neuromuscular conditions to live independent lives as my experience had shown how much was truly possible. I have settled in the area, now residing in Cheshire. Married to my wonderful (mid)wife, Laura, we live with Freya, Jasper & Oakley, delivered to cause mayhem and mishaps alike. If it isn't the school run, it is swimming, drama, music, dance, karate…… I have enjoyed seeing Care Preference grow and those working here develop and grow too. With multiple registered managers, team leaders, development staff and front line carers all part of a project to secure independence and reach newer and higher goals.

I am one for the registered care managers and I have worked for Care Preference since January 2011. I am originally from France where I was a qualified and registered nurse for several years.

I am one for the registered care managers and I have worked for Care Preference since January 2011. I am originally from France where I was a qualified and registered nurse for several years. When I moved to UK, my English was not as good as today so my plan was to improve my English and then to register as a nurse over here. I have then decided to work within the care industry and Care Preference gave me my chance.

Care Preference quickly gave me the opportunity to progress within the company. I went through several positions (team leader, recruitment & training field officer, head of procedures, etc). I have enjoyed and still enjoy working for Care Preference because the ethos of the company matches my views and belief of what care is all about. Throughout my progress with the company and again today, I am fully supported regarding my decisions or any difficulty I would face.

Care Preference has also given me the opportunity to involve my family when it comes to social events and over the years, the company has given me support whilst experiencing personal difficulties. Even if it can sound "cliche", I am really grateful for what Care Preference has offered me since the beginning of my employment and I believe it is nowadays a chance to be able to get-up in the morning and be happy to go to work.

The company has been so supportive and flexible with me to enable me to progress and develop my career and skill set. Prior to Care Preference, I studied Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University, alongside gaining work experience in a bar/restaurant throughout the year and attending Camp America during the summer months. This is where my affinity with Care Work started. Since then I have enjoyed a career working with many people with disability and now I am settled in my job at Care Preference, which I absolutely love. Outside of work, I love playing sports, keeping active and staying healthy.

I work as a registered manager in York. I have worked for Care Preference since 2019, but have worked within care for the last 15 years. Before working for Care Preference I worked for a domiciliary care company looking after predominantly elderly clients, this helped gain experience and knowledge in an array of areas.

Since starting for Care Preference I have really enjoyed my role as every day is different and I enjoy the challenge. I really enjoy helping others and assisting to start on new packages to help individuals to receive our fantastic care.

I served as a Rifleman in the Yorkshire regiment between 2001 - 2008 operating in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo and Iraq. In 2008, I began my career in Care. Working as a Care Assistant for several years supporting a number of clients with varying Neuromuscular conditions. I have plenty of experience in supporting individuals and groups both domestically and overseas to live an independent life. More recently, I have completed my registration with the CQC and am now practicing as a Registered Manager having worked for several years prior to this as a Team Leader and more recently as a Training and Recruitment Officer within Care Preference. I am based in my home city of York and manage teams as far North to South as Aberdeen to Lincoln. When not managing my teams, I can be found on the river bank enjoying my fishing, but only when my Fiancée Ella lets me out to play.
